Breaking news! CIE won the first prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award

On the morning of November 3, the 2020 National Science and Technology Awards Conference was grandly held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. At the meeting, the "technology and application for collaborative advanced treatment of industrial flue gas containing multi-pollutants", a project led by Tsinghua University and participated by CIE as the second completion unit, won the first prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award. Among them, the multi-pollutant flue gas purification technology with activated carbon is the main innovation of the award-winning project.

 

The "multi-pollutant flue gas purification technology with activated carbon" has been successfully applied in Baosteel (Zhanjiang) and Baosteel (Base) and opened a new horizon for domestic steel plants to treat flue gas, thus being listed top in the Catalogue of Major Environmental Protection Technologies and Equipment Encouraged by the State (atmospheric pollution control) by MIIT. This technology realizes ultra-low emissions and provides technical support for the "Opinions on Promoting the Ultra-low Emission in Iron and Steel Industry" jointly issued by the Ministry of Ecological Environment and other four ministries and commissions. It has been widely applied in over 20 sintering & pelletizing supporting flue gas purification projects for enterprises at home and abroad, including Anyang Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd., Wuhan Iron and Steel Group, Jinnan Steel Group, Hebei Yong Yang Special Steel Group Co., Ltd., Jinding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., Zenith Steel Group Co., Ltd., and Shandong Laigang Yongfeng Steel Co., Ltd.

 

Compared with domestic traditional technologies, this technology really realizes the simultaneous removal of multiple pollutants and recycling of by-products and has better cost performance and lower carbon emissions. Compared with similar foreign technologies, this technology features a higher removal efficiency, lower investment (saving 40%), and lower operation cost, reaching the international leading level.

  

With this technological achievement, CIE has been granted 235 patents, including 6 foreign patents, 80 domestic invention patents, 149 utility model patents, edited 14 industrial and group standards, published 1 monograph, and delivered 19 academic papers. In 2018, CIE won the first prize of metallurgical science and technology awards.

  

In the future, CIE will stick to the strategy of faithfully serving the country and put more effort into the research and development of low-carbon and intelligent sintering & pelletizing technology and direct reduction technology. Currently, CIE is studying CO recycling in low-concentration, high sulfur, and high water environment, aiming to solve the global difficulty of CO emission in flue gas from sintering. CIE is also studying the recycling of refractory solid waste generated in the whole process of sintering & pelletizing metallurgy, contributing its wisdom and strength to the industrial development towards an intelligent, green, low-carbon, and high-efficiency horizon.
