On February 6, the 14 m2 shaft-furnace pelletizing EPC project (the 3.5-million-ton-level steel project) in Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park, under the general contraction by CIE, was successfully put into operation.

Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park is the first industrial park constructed with joint efforts of China and Malaysia, and also the first national-level one in Malaysia. The 3.5-million-ton-level steel project has been the first one introduced into the industrial park since its opening in 2012, and also the first modern full-process comprehensive iron & steel plant invested overseas by mainland China. The shaft-furnace pelletizing project which has been put into operation is one of the key units for the 3.5-million-ton-level steel project in Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park.

The addition of oxidized pellets is an important technical measure to achieve advanced furnace material structure and reduce the production cost of pig iron. High quality pellets can significantly improve the utilization rate of blast furnaces, reduce slag in blast furnace ironmaking and lower the comprehensive fuel consumption rate. The operation of the project will strongly boost the self-sufficiency in pellet ore for the ore owner, which will not only bring great convenience to the production, but also significantly reduce the production cost.
