On Jan 31, good news came from the Ministry of Science & Technology (national scientific development plan (2011)No.5), CIE wins approval to establish the “National technology research center for sintering and pelletizing equipment system engineering”, since it ranks the first in the enterprises by comprehensive evaluation, and there are also 29 units who win the approval at the same time to establish the national engineering technology research center in 2010.

In view of the center, CIE will make its effort to focus on the key technology and equipment of sintering and pelletizing, key technology and equipment of energy conservation and emission reduction for pelletizing, process and equipment technology of pyrite residue ironbearing raw material resources (oxidized pellet), technology and equipment technology for extraction of zinc from dust and ironbearing materials recycling (direct reduction with rotary hearth furnace)in iron and steel plants, process and equipment technology for comprehensive utilization of sea sand ores (direct reduction with multilayer furnace) etc., CIE will built it into a comprehensive engineering technology centre in domestic fields of iron and steel sintering, pelletizing and direct reduction equipment. The center will allow full play to its technology guidance, promotion and radiation function in the fields, and it will devote itself to promote the structure adjustment and sustainable development of iron and steel industry, to build a “twotype society (resources conservationminded society and environmental friendly society)” and to develop “low carbon economy” .

In the future three years, CIE should finish the setup and target of the center, then it can pass the acceptance and officially hang out its shingle. At present, related work has been successively carried out, CIE will make its effort to ensure smooth acceptance of the centre.
